Corrections & Clarifications

Accuracy Matters. Transparency Builds Trust.
Our Commitment to Accurate Reporting
At Keep Updated UK, we are committed to publishing accurate, responsible and trustworthy journalism.
We recognise that even with careful research, verification and editorial review, mistakes can occur.
When inaccuracies are identified, our responsibility is to investigate them, correct confirmed errors and ensure readers have access to accurate information.
We believe that acknowledging mistakes openly is essential to maintaining public confidence in independent journalism.
This Corrections & Clarifications Policy explains how we handle factual errors, article updates, reader concerns and corrections across our website and associated social media platforms.
1. Our Corrections Policy
Keep Updated UK is committed to correcting significant factual inaccuracies promptly and transparently.
Where information published by us is found to be materially inaccurate or misleading, we will take appropriate corrective action.
Depending on the circumstances, this may involve:
- Correcting inaccurate information within an article.
- Publishing a clearly labelled correction notice.
- Clarifying statements that could reasonably be misunderstood.
- Updating headlines, captions or associated images.
- Publishing additional verified information.
- Issuing a separate correction or apology where appropriate.
- Withdrawing or retracting material that cannot responsibly remain published.
The nature and prominence of a correction will reflect the seriousness of the original error.
We will not knowingly leave materially false or misleading information uncorrected.
2. Types of Editorial Amendments
We distinguish between corrections, clarifications, updates and retractions.
Corrections
A correction is issued when previously published information is established to be factually inaccurate.
Examples include incorrect figures, dates, names, locations, quotations or descriptions of events.
Where a significant correction is made, we will clearly identify the error and provide the accurate information.
Clarifications
A clarification may be published where information is technically accurate but its wording, presentation or omission of relevant context could create a materially misleading impression.
Clarifications are intended to improve understanding and provide necessary context.
Article Updates
News stories frequently develop as additional information becomes available.
An update may include new statements, revised official figures, subsequent developments or additional verified evidence.
An update does not necessarily mean the original article was inaccurate.
Where changes are material, we will identify that the article has been updated and explain the significant new information.
Retractions and Withdrawals
In exceptional circumstances, an article may require withdrawal or retraction.
This may occur where a central claim cannot be substantiated, serious inaccuracies undermine the reliability of the reporting, or continued publication would be unlawful or otherwise inappropriate.
Where legally and reasonably possible, we will retain an explanatory notice at the original article address rather than removing the article without explanation.
3. How We Display Corrections
Significant corrections should be easy for readers to identify.
Where appropriate, a correction notice will appear within the original article, normally near the beginning or end depending on the circumstances and required prominence.
A correction notice may include the date, a description of the error and the accurate information.
We aim to ensure that corrections receive visibility proportionate to the original publication and the significance of the error.
For particularly serious or widely circulated inaccuracies, a standalone correction may also be published.
We will not rely solely on making an unnoticed change to correct a significant factual error.
4. Corrections to Headlines and Images
Our responsibility for accuracy extends beyond article text.
Headlines, photographs, video thumbnails, captions, social media graphics and other visual material must not materially misrepresent the underlying facts.
Where a headline creates a misleading impression, it will be reviewed and corrected as appropriate.
Where photographs or illustrations have been incorrectly identified, attributed or described, appropriate corrections will be made.
If an image is found to misrepresent an event or individual, we will consider whether it should be replaced, relabelled or removed.
Where relevant, correction notices will explain significant visual changes.
5. Corrections Across Social Media
Keep Updated UK publishes or may publish content across social media platforms, including TikTok, Facebook and other digital channels.
We recognise that inaccurate information shared through social media can reach audiences who may never visit our website.
Where a significant error appears in content under our editorial control, we will consider the appropriate action on the same platform.
This may include a correction post, replacement content, an updated description where supported, or the removal of misleading material alongside a clear correction where appropriate.
For significant errors, deleting a post alone may not sufficiently inform the audience that previously received the inaccurate information.
Our aim is to communicate corrections effectively and responsibly.
6. Reporting an Error
We encourage readers, organisations and individuals to bring potential factual inaccuracies to our attention.
If you believe that an article, headline, image or video contains inaccurate or misleading information, please contact us through the Contact Us page on our website.
When submitting a correction request, please provide:
- The title or link of the relevant article.
- The specific statement or material you believe is inaccurate.
- An explanation of the concern.
- Supporting evidence or reliable references, where available.
- Your contact details if you would like a response.
We welcome corrections from readers regardless of their political views, personal opinions or involvement in the subject being reported.
Requests will be assessed based on the available evidence.
7. How We Investigate Correction Requests
When we receive a credible request for correction, we will assess the concern and review the relevant material.
Where necessary, this may involve examining original sources, checking documentary evidence, reviewing official records, contacting relevant organisations or seeking further clarification.
We will distinguish factual disputes from differences of opinion or interpretation.
A disagreement with the subject or conclusions of an article does not automatically establish that it contains an error.
Where evidence establishes a material inaccuracy, we will take appropriate corrective action.
We may request additional information where this is necessary to assess a complaint fairly.
8. Response Times
We aim to acknowledge formal correction requests within five working days of receipt.
Where reasonably possible, we aim to provide a substantive response within 20 working days.
Straightforward factual errors may be corrected much sooner.
Significant inaccuracies should not remain uncorrected merely because a formal complaint investigation is ongoing.
Complex matters may require additional time for evidence gathering, source verification or legal consideration.
Where there is a significant delay, we will seek to keep the person raising the concern informed.
These response times are service commitments and may be affected by exceptional circumstances.
9. Disputed Information and Right of Reply
Some published reports involve allegations, conflicting accounts or disputes between individuals, organisations and public authorities.
We will take care to distinguish verified facts from allegations, claims and opinions.
Where appropriate, individuals and organisations facing significant allegations will be offered a fair opportunity to respond.
If relevant new evidence becomes available after publication, we will consider whether the article requires updating, clarification or correction.
We will not remove accurate reporting solely because it is controversial, critical or disputed.
Editorial decisions will be based on available evidence, fairness, the public interest and applicable law.
10. Anonymous Sources and Developing Stories
Some stories may rely partly on confidential sources, eyewitness reports or information that is still emerging.
We will take reasonable steps to assess the credibility of such information before publication.
If subsequently obtained evidence materially changes or disproves an earlier report, we will review the published content and make appropriate corrections or updates.
We will not present unverified claims as established facts.
Protection of a confidential source does not remove our responsibility to investigate credible concerns about accuracy.
11. Artificial Intelligence and Editorial Corrections
Keep Updated UK may use artificial intelligence to assist with editorial workflows, research organisation, image creation and content preparation.
AI-generated material is subject to human editorial responsibility.
If AI-assisted content introduces a factual inaccuracy, the same correction standards apply as for any other published material.
AI-generated images and illustrations must not be presented as authentic documentary photographs of events they do not depict.
Where AI-generated or digitally reconstructed content creates a misleading impression, we will take appropriate corrective action.
The use of artificial intelligence does not diminish our responsibility for published content.
12. Publication Dates and Editorial Transparency
We aim to maintain a clear distinction between the original publication date of an article and the date of any subsequent material update.
Significant changes may be accompanied by an update or correction notice.
Routine amendments, such as correcting spelling, punctuation, formatting or minor typographical mistakes that do not affect meaning, will not ordinarily require a formal correction notice.
We will not deliberately change publication dates or presentation in a manner intended to mislead readers about when reporting originally appeared.
Where practical, we will retain internal records of significant editorial corrections.
13. Removal of Published Content
We generally favour correcting or updating the public record rather than removing accurate historical reporting.
However, removal may be appropriate in certain circumstances.
These may include serious factual inaccuracies, legal obligations, unjustified privacy intrusion, safeguarding concerns or other compelling reasons.
Requests for removal will be considered individually.
The existence of an objection to an accurate article does not, by itself, require its removal.
Where a significant article is withdrawn, we will consider publishing an explanation, subject to legal, privacy and safeguarding considerations.
14. Complaints and Further Review
If you are dissatisfied with our response to a correction request, you may ask us to review the decision.
Please explain why you believe the original concern has not been adequately addressed and provide any relevant additional evidence.
Where reasonably possible, a review will be conducted by someone other than the person responsible for the original disputed editorial decision.
We will consider whether further investigation, clarification or corrective action is appropriate.
Our Corrections & Clarifications process operates alongside our wider Editorial Standards and Complaints Procedure.
15. Accountability to Our Readers
Our responsibility does not end when an article is published.
Journalism requires ongoing attention to accuracy, new evidence and legitimate concerns raised by the public.
We believe independent news organisations should be willing to acknowledge errors, explain significant amendments and maintain a transparent public record.
At Keep Updated UK, our commitment is straightforward:
If we get something wrong, we will investigate it.
If a significant error is established, we will correct it.
If further context is needed, we will clarify it.
If new verified information emerges, we will update our reporting.
Our credibility depends on the accuracy of our journalism and our willingness to be accountable.
