Police confirm two charges

A serving member of the Royal Navy has been charged with two offences under the National Security Act 2023 after an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing London.

Teddy Young, 24, was arrested at an address in Bedfordshire on Tuesday 6 October. The Metropolitan Police said the Crown Prosecution Service authorised charges the following day, with the alleged conduct taking place between 26 November 2024 and 21 May 2025.

Allegations concern protected information

One count alleges conduct in preparation for disclosing protected information, contrary to section 18 of the 2023 Act. A second alleges obtaining, copying, recording or retaining protected information intending that the conduct benefit a foreign power and in circumstances prejudicial to the UK's safety or interests, contrary to section 1.

These allegations have not been proven. The nature of any material involved and the prosecution's full evidence are matters for the court process, not established facts for public reporting.

Court proceedings and separate investigations

Young was listed to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday 8 October. Reporting on the hearing said he was remanded in custody with a further appearance expected at the Old Bailey on 16 October.

The police said the Ministry of Defence had been closely involved as the investigation progressed so that any potential risks could be considered. Officers also emphasised that this case is not linked to the separate investigation at RAF Fairford.

In criminal proceedings, the burden is on the prosecution to prove its case. The accused is presumed innocent unless and until a court determines otherwise. Keep Updated UK will distinguish the police's announcement of charges from any later courtroom findings.
